Children have a wonderful potential to heal themselves when provided the correct guidance.
Integrative pediatrics is fully integrated healthcare (osteopathy, cranial osteopathy, nutrition, supplements) and conventional health care that is based on evidence-based research. IP supports the innate capacity of the human mind, body and spirit to heal. Integrative pediatrics acknowledges that there is a place and time for conventional treatments when balanced with holistic care. Often, in emergent situations, state-of-the-art conventional medical care is needed. In other cases – is. common cold, sinus infection, ear infection -- a more gentle, holistic option is most useful .
The main principle of osteopathy is that structure (anatomy), function (physiology) and biochemical processes are interdependent. There are many levels of both subtle and concrete movements that can be both seen or felt like pulses or subtle cranial flow. Problems arise when there are blocks to the natural movement or flow of things, such as arterial blood flow (arteries bring oxygen and nutrients), venous drainage (veins remove toxins), lymphatic drainage (lymph removes inflammation), nerve messages (our brain relies on proper CSF flow), connective tissue tension (a continuous layer throughout the whole body), and energy flow. Osteopathy removes blockages through gentle manipulation.
Cranial osteopathy extends the concepts described above to our most central rhythm – the cranial-sacral rhythm – which can be felt anywhere in the body and from which all other rhythms arise. The cranial-sacral rhythm is the driving force behind all healing. Chronic symptoms occur when this rhythm is overwhelmed and blockages occur.
Nutrition is one of the basic building blocks of health.. We personalize a nutritional program that fits a person’s lifestyle, age, and abilities. Areas of nutrition we have studied include functional medicine and holistic nursing approaches.
Children may not be able to get all the nutrients they need from their diet and supplements may be temporarily recommended. Children can be finicky eaters, or have certain allergies, or have an illness that would benefit from extra nutrition. We can also help a person understand what supplements to take or avoid.
Integrative pediatrics can be used to address any condition as well as for preventative care and wellbeing. Some commonly treated conditions include but are not limited to the following:
Recurrent ear infections
Recurrent throat infections
Yeast & fungal infections
Chronic abdominal pain
Mental health conditions
PMS and other menstrual problems
Back/neck pain, sciatica, scoliosis
Vague or specific problems without a diagnosis
